If you think New Jersey is nothing but a mass of turnpikes and highways, then you've never heard of Franklin Township. With about 6,500 acres of farmland, residential areas can be just five minutes from the country, and sheep and cows are a common sight. Franklin is also one of the most diverse townships in New Jersey, with a population that's 20% Asian and 27% African-American. City slickers take note: The community doesn't have a real downtown area, and it takes an hour to reach New York City or Philadelphia. --D.M.
