Known as "Nickel Neelie" for her toughness, Kroes pursues alleged U.S. monopolists far more aggressively than do U.S. antitrust authorities. In September her regulators won a court order affirming $700 million in fines against Microsoft, and in July they charged Intel with using illegal rebates to block competition (which Intel denies).
