Small sedan: Hyundai Elantra

Consumer Reports calls the Elantra "a well-rounded small car that provides good fuel economy, a comfortable ride, and an interior that's quiet, roomy and well-equipped."Electronic stability control (ESC) is standard equipment. Affordable availability of ESC, a system that helps prevent loss of control during abrupt maneuvers, is a requirement for a Consumer Reports pick this year. While the Honda Civic EX and Mazda3 scored as well as the Elantra (the Civic got this pick last year) they lack ESC in their most affordable versions.
