But the Sequoia Platinum I tested had a bigger 5.7-liter V8 that produces power comparable to GM's optional 6.2 liter engine. In that light, these vehicles are about even.
To its credit, GM offers a gas/electric hybrid version of its SUV. This time, it's GM's turn to be the leader in fuel saving technology. So far, there's been no word from Toyota on a Sequoia Hybrid.
Toyota's big V8 gives the Sequoia surprising quickness, keeping with Toyota's fondness for quick throttle response. Toyota cars and trucks tend to snap off the line under light gas pedal pressure even it they're not fast otherwise.
But in ride and handling, the roly-poly Sequoia is no match for the more refined, car-like feel of the Chevy Tahoe. The Ford Expedition also feels like it has better body control.
The Sequoia Platinum provides adjustable suspension settings - select from "Comfort," "Sport" or something in between - and I found myself changing constantly to suit varying driving surfaces and speeds.
