Many of the top employers in Columbus are manufacturers: Cummins Engine, NTN Driveshaft, and Emcon Technologies have plants there, and about 36% of the county population works in the sector. But the city of 40,000 is also home to 24 Japanese manufacturers, including Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing. Columbus' sister city is Miyoshi, Japan, near the headquarters of Toyota Motors. The international exchange trend continues: City officials and business owners now make biannual trips to China to build relationships with Chinese companies.
