16 'Best Resale Value' cars
Kelley Blue Book predicts that these models will hold their value better than others in their classes.
Ford's been having a very good autumn this year. First, Consumer Reports pointed out Ford's huge quality improvements as it announced its annual "Most Dependable Cars" rankings. That was followed by Motor Trend magazine naming the Ford Fusion its Car of the Year.
Now, Ford has another notable win with the new Ford Taurus taking the prize from Kelley Blue Book for best projected resale value among large cars. That means if you buy a Taurus today, in five years it will hold on to more of its original sticker price than any other other large car, Kelley Blue Book's analysts predict. That's a big deal, since depreciation -- the loss of a car's value -- is the single biggest cost of owning a car.
The Taurus appears in a list that's otherwise notably lean on domestic cars. Among the top cars in 16 different vehicle categories, only three are from Detroit.
Toyota ranks as the top brand for resale value overall and Toyota's Lexus luxury brand ranks as the best overall luxury brand for resale value. Toyota, including Lexus, also has the most vehicles -- six in all -- among best-in-category winners.
