Construction Worker, American Infrastructure
I'd been at American Infrastructure for 10 years when I was laid off at the beginning of the year. Then I got a phone call and they called me back in March to work on New Hampshire Avenue, which was the state's first shovel-ready project. It was the first stimulus project that got started in the country, and I was one of the first hired back. Sometimes I work with a milling crew; now I'm working with the paving crew and traffic control.
I'm glad they called me back when they did. I think the stimulus is helping a lot of people like me. I was out of work for almost two months. My wife and I used to eat out on Fridays, but we stopped doing that as much. We stopped going to the movies. Now we're spending money in the community again. I'm proud to be doing the job that we do -- fixing potholes. That's going to make a lot of people happier. I can ride down the road and say I helped put this road in, and it's a better road, and people get home safer.
