This Florida wine retail franchise grew to eight company-owned stores and nine franchisees before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2008, just four years after it opened. All the company-owned stores shuttered, laying off 40 workers. News of the filing didn't reach franchisees until a laid-off worker from a company applied for a job at a franchisee's store. Today, the franchisees meet regularly to discuss how to keep their brand alive without the parent company.
