The Ellis Manor Senior Center's 89 units provide independent living for low-income seniors.
Greater Grace Temple's former minister, the late David Ellis -- the father of current pastor, the Rev. Charles Ellis III -- pushed for the construction of a housing center for low-income senior citizens.
After three attempts, the church was awarded a $5.3 million HUD capital grant, and opened its center in 1994. Located within the Greater Grace Temple complex, the center is fully occupied and has a waiting list. It offers residents an apartment, a common balcony, a multipurpose room, a library and organized activities like regular shopping trips.
