Like Apple's iPhone, Ford's new Touch system allows outside companies to write applications to work with the car. For example, Ford invited the Internet radio company Pandora to create an application that will allow users to stream the service through their phones to the car's stereo while using Sync's voice controls.
As it stands, Ford said, about 55% of Internet radio users who listen to Internet radio do so in the car so applications like this seemed like a natural fit.
The Pandora application was written by Pandora developers in about 10 days, Ford said, as was another from the Stitcher Internet radio news service, Ford said.Another application Ford unveiled allows users to update their Facebook status from the car using voice commands.
