The Bright Idea isn't a fully electric vehicle. Rather, it's a plug-in hybrid that can go up to 40 miles on electric power only. After that, it switches to hybrid gas/electric operation during which it should get 40 miles per gallon, according to Bright.
Like the Navistar truck, this one isn't a standard truck that has been re-tooled. The benefit of being being a plug-in hybrid is, of course, greater flexibility. These trucks can easily be driven long routes, or short, with no problem.
Bright had been planning to start production in 2012, but funding problems have delayed that until late 2013, Bright executives say.
