Joy Gilder of Venice, Fla., likes the classic American feel of her 250,000-mile Roadmaster Wagon. Last year, she bought a used Ford Explorer SUV but got rid of it because she didn't like the ride quality.
"It didn't float like the station wagon does," she said.
She also bemoans the fact that today's SUVs and wagons have tailgates that open upwards, not down like Roadmaster's. That makes it harder to drive them with large items, like her kayaks, sticking out the back, she said.
