Median home price: $115,138
Median family income (per year): $64,889

This city on the edge of the Great Plains was a stop on the Chisholm Trail, with huge cattle drives coming up from Texas to connect with the railhead and on to eastern markets. Today, aircraft manufacturing is an economic mainstay, with Learjet, Cessna and Hawker Beechcraft all based in town, while Boeing and Airbus maintain facilities.

Those industries offer well-paying jobs, which is reflected in Wichita's high median income. Home prices stayed steady through the long boom and house hunters have a wide choice of family homes of 2,200 square feet or more for less than $200,000.
