I retired in 1999 after working with the Labor Department for 36 years. I thought it'd be nice to help out the government, and time goes by a lot faster when you're working. In 2000, I applied for a census job and went door-to-door to encourage people to fill out their forms.
A little bit of extra income always helps, and I tried to get a part-time job a year ago but I never heard back. Being a census worker again this year is a good alternative, and I really enjoy meeting and socializing with people. I'll start training in a couple of weeks and will go door-to-door again.
