The ominous dark clouds that rained out last year's fireworks extravaganza don't seem so gloomy anymore in Palm Bay, Fla. The city is taking advantage of its vendor's rain date policy of rescheduling within 364 days of the original date without extra fees by hosting a celebration on the eve of Independence Day.
Eliminating the celebrations was part of budget discussions, since Palm Bay has been trying to reduce its budget by $5 million. The city will still have to put up $15,000 for the day in associated costs, but saving $25,000 on the fireworks display helped avoid canceling the fun, said city manager Lee Feldman.
