I started taking Social Security a few months after reaching 62. If I live past 85, [taking it early will have been] a mistake.
By my calculation, 85 is the cross-over, break-even point for me, and that's a long ways away. I wasn't sure what my lifespan would be, so it's a judgment call.
I paid an enormous amount of the money into the system, and I know I will only get back a fraction of what I paid in.
I only took Social Security that early to get into the system. There's talk about raising the retirement age, and I believe that... whatever reasonable fiscal policy that our leaders come up with, some rules will change for those who are not already in the system.
I hope the [rules] will either not change or change very little for me.
