An abandoned supermarket in Watertown, Wisconsin, was going to be replaced with a new train station.
The town's 23,000 residents live about half way between Madison and Milwaukee.
The town's mayor also anticipated private investment in commercial and residential developments around the station bringing a projected total influx of $25 million.
The current governor of Wisconsin claimed at the height of construction on the high speed line, more than 4,700 jobs would be created, a figure that Governor-elect Scott Walker disputed.
