Despite all the benefits Kokomo has reaped under the stimulus and bailout plans, many people think they were a bad idea.
"The stimulus was a tragic waste of money," said Peter Heck, a 31-year-old history teacher at the local high school and host of a conservative radio talk show.
Heck is also against the auto bailout. It's not that he wanted the industry to go under, just that he thinks it could have reorganized without government money.
He concedes it would have been a risky gamble, but added that it's "only the same gamble that small businesses have to take everyday."
Indeed, both the owners of Sweet Poppins and the Pointy Pencil were also against the bailout, no doubt aware that should they fail, the government would unlikely open its checkbook for them.
