Robert Bresnahan, president of Larson Electronics, said the company has thought extensively about going abroad for sourcing but has hesitated.
"If you go overseas, you have to commit to making a certain volume of products," he said. "And as a U.S. company, I don't know how I can maintain control over a manufacturing facility deep inside China."
But he said domestic vendors have to step up their game in order to stay competitive.
"We have to keep coming up with new products but many vendors don't want to do [our] design work. They only want the big orders," he said.
And like customers of other Made in the U.S.A. businesses, Bresnahan said the economy has tempted customers to consider cheaper overseas alternatives.
"We're definitely seeing people make more price-conscious choices today."
