General Motors introduced the hybrid "eAssist" system in the larger Buick LaCrosse at the Detroit Auto Show back in January. In Chicago GM unveiled it in the smaller, sportier Regal.
This hybrid system uses a 15-kilowatt electric motor that adds its 15 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque to the Regal's 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The electric assist will help the car get 26 miles per gallon in the city and 37 mpg highway, GM says.
