You don't have to take The Donald's word for it. Trump Tea gets high marks from Peter Longo, owner of Porto Rico Importing Co. in New York, a century-old retailer of tea and coffee. Longo brewed a cup of Union Square, which is caffeinated black assam tea, named after the state of Assam in India, blended with vanilla and cocoa. He said the Union Square has an "excellent" flavor.
"The addition of vanilla mellowed the flavor, so it wasn't bitter," he said. He added that he could smell the cocoa, but couldn't taste it, until his co-worker brewed the tea with milk, which brought out the cocoa flavor.
"It is a very high quality tea and it's packaged with the latest technology," said Longo, referring to the nylon pyramid tea bags, which facilitate better brewing. But there is a down side, he said. "You're paying for the packaging."
The Trump-embossed tin of Union Square contains 1.22 ounces of tea and costs $12.95, while this type of tea usually retails for $14 for eight ounces in loose form, according to Longo.
