Havens earned loads more than his CEO in 2010, and so did everyone else at the company. That's what happens when the boss works for an annual salary of $1, as Pandit agreed to do in 2009 in the wake of the bank's bailouts. After a nearly 30-year career that has taken him to Wall Street's highest levels, of course, it's not as if Pandit needs the money.

Havens' reach is as big as his paycheck: His Institutional Clients Group serves corporations, other financial institutions, and governments, and has a presence in nearly 100 countries. --J.O.
