Brandi Bohannon, 24
Washington, D.C.
When I was in high school, I applied to big universities like Tulane, Vanderbilt and American University, and I got rejected by all of them. I didn't give up. I went to community college, and later I was accepted at AU to study international relations.
I moved to D.C., interned on Capitol Hill, graduated and got a job at Counterpart International.
My parents had told me it's a stupid major, and you're never going to do anything with it.
Back home in Alabama, almost all my friends dropped out of college. Many friends were married at 19, and are already pregnant with their third child. They were also telling me I couldn't do it.
I proved them all wrong.
I believe in the American Dream, because once you set your mind to something, you can do it.
