At a time when many of the big banks are doing away with debit rewards, PerkStreet boasts a debit card rewards program that it says can earn the average American family more than $600 a year.
There's no minimum balance requirement. The tradeoff, however, is that there's no APY on the checking accounts.
You can choose the kind of debit rewards you want -- like coffee, cash or music -- when you open your account. When you make non-PIN purchases with your debit card (meaning you sign for the purchase), you'll automatically earn cash back.
That cash can be redeemed at places like Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Amazon or iTunes. Or, if you'd rather have the cash, you can get $1 for every $50 you spend.
Along with these rewards, you'll also get free checkbooks, free online banking and bill pay and access to 37,000 free ATMs.
Some banks are now charging you for talking to a human teller, forgetting to notify your bank of your new address, losing your credit card, or cashing in your loose coins.
