On Christmas Eve, I was at Washington National airport waiting for a flight to Kansas City when they announced that one of the last two flights was canceled. Most passengers got ugly; one man literally screamed at an older female agent.
After he left, I told the agent I understood there wasn't much chance of me getting on the last flight. I also apologized for the man's behavior and wished her a Merry Christmas. When the names were called to board the plane, mine was one of the first. I had also been upgraded to first class.
