Name: Janice Bremec
Hometown: Los Angeles
This make-up artist will soon be living under the "H" of the Hollywood sign, thanks to her dad.
"I work on a show for HGTV called 'Selling LA,' " she said. "We follow high-end real estate agents who sell various properties around Los Angeles. I may not be able to afford a $15 million Beverly Hills mansion but I could afford a $325,000 condo with a boost from my dad."
She needed her dad's help for two reasons. The first was to raise her down payment up to the 20% needed to get a mortgage without paying extra for insurance. The second was because she works freelance, so he actually took out the loan.
"The self-employed, freelance lifestyle looks bad on paper for a mortgage lender," she said. "I know I'm financially sound, my dad knows I'm financially sound, but the banks won't even shake my hand."
"My condo is in the Hollywood Hills," said Janice. "My quality of life will improve immensely with the purchase! Thanks to my dad, I'll be able to build equity for myself as well as relish in the pride of home ownership."
The help was not a loan: It was a gift. "His philosophy is 'Enjoy it now while I can experience it with you.' I couldn't be more blessed," said Bremec.
