The micro-blogging social network has been gearing up for location-based features for a while now, or at least as recently as a year ago, when it acquired Mixer Labs, a GeoAPI maker that helps app makers get more information about user locations, and later partnered with TomTom and Localeze. The result was Twitter Locations, launched last June -- users can tag their Tweets to spots, create new Twitter Locations, or click on a Twitter Location within a Tweet and skim Tweets sent out from a particular location. There's also Fourquare and Gowalla integration so users can browse check-ins from those social networks, too. A solid start, but not as advanced as competition from Google or even Facebook.
