Health care is a hot-button issue this election cycle, and for a health services company like UnitedHealth, that means big time lobbying. Last year, the company spent more than $2.9 million on targeting lawmakers and has already spent $790,000 in 2012.

CEO Stephen Hemsley has put a fair amount down toward the Republican Party, donating a majority of his funds to three GOP senatorial campaigns -- Mitch McConnell's Orrin Hatch's, and Massachusetts' Scott Brown. Each senator has made no secret of his distaste for Obamacare, which faces an uncertain future before the Supreme Court in June.
