Education
In order to pursue a more challenging and higher paid career, my family and I moved from Hunan to Shenzhen, a city known as "the window of China's economic reform."
That was in the 1990's and my income at the time was less than $320 a month. Now it is close to $2,300.
My wife and I are both senior middle school teachers, and our family's total income (after tax) in 2011 was about $54,000.
We currently own two condo apartments in Shenzhen -- one for our own use and a rental.
We also purchased a Buick Regal in 2005 that we have been using for road trips around Guangdong, an eco-friendly province with picturesque scenery and a pleasant climate. My family loves to go to the beach or hot spring baths.
Our entire family loves reading and buys a lot of books. All three of us have more or less published essays publicly, including my poetry and prose. We were even named one of the 30 "Book Families in Shenzhen" by the city government in 2011.
