I found better rates for our life, auto and homeowners insurance, saving us $1,600 per year. I should have done that a long time ago.

Second, just after the economy turned south, I moved my entire 401(k) balance into a money market fund, so I didn't lose 30%-40% of my balance like friends and co-workers did. Then when things leveled out, I slowly moved some of the funds back.
