I do research for an oil broker, and we work for clients that want to find out what kind of minerals are available, who has them and how to get a hold of them.
I've been doing it for about a year. I was a chef in Hawaii and had a salsa business out there, and I took a break from doing that to do something a little different.
I've mainly done Wyoming and Kansas. I worked out of probably eight different courthouses in the two states, and they're all a little different. You do run into some of the same people in different parts -- here in Kansas we've run into a lot of the same people who were in Dodge City [in Kansas] so that's neat. And those friendships that you've developed over there you kind of pick back up where you left off. But there are a lot of new faces all the time, too.
[Moving] is just part of the job. You just have to be willing to do that. Sometimes it's kind of a bummer -- like if you've got plans in store. When I was in Wyoming, I was looking forward to whitewater rafting [this month] and going up to Canada and seeing some places I hadn't got a chance to see.
Recently, I bought a plane ticket for San Francisco, then two days later I was moved to a different part of the state and had to drive across the state to get to the plane. But that's kinda part of what you deal with. And it's fun.
