The damage. Parking rates at urban campuses are astronomical. And that's not even counting the $6,800 it costs to own and operate a car, according to AAA.
The fix. Ditch the car. Most campuses give students a discount on a local transportation pass.
Share it. Car-sharing services like U Car Share and Zipcar have made a big push onto college campuses. The occasional driver can access Zipcar for about $30 a month.
