You don't have to worry that these steel cubes will rust: They're supposed to do that. Owner Walt Cecil said he expects them to get just a tad more orange and then stay that way.
The Desert Nomad House is comprised of three steel and glass boxes. Each is basically one room, plus bath, positioned and situated to have a different view of the scenic Sonoran Desert. Gravel paths connect the cubes, which look out onto the hillsides filled with cacti and other desert plants.
The house features light-sensitive window screens over the floor-to-ceiling windows that descend automatically to prevent the sunlight from heating up the interior. When the sun moves up or away, the screens rise again.
The interior is luxurious with maple floors, ceilings and walls. Cecil, an art and antiques dealer, has set up the interior like a private museum. He's selling the property because his business interests have kept him mostly in San Francisco, his primary residence.
