This lighthouse overlooking Lake Superior was built in 1896 and appears in both the National and State Historic Registries. The residential portion was built as two separate apartments connected through the base of the lighthouse but has now been combined into one large residence.
One of its most attractive features is the abundance of exposed brick walls. There are also fireplaces, beautiful wood staircases and nice built-in cabinets. The kitchen has been fully modernized with white cabinets, an electric cook top and a central island.
The light tower sits on a high bluff and is 64-feet tall. It's reached by a curving metal staircase. The original light is on display but not used. There's a new, modern light in the tower now; this is still an active lighthouse. The property includes five acres of land about 30 miles from Marquette, the largest city on Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The property has been used as a bed-and-breakfast lately, but can easily be converted back into a single-family residence.
Legend has it that the home comes with a ghost, perhaps because of a famous murder back in 1952. A soldier camping on the grounds reportedly killed a bar owner in town and got away with it. The incident inspired the movie "Anatomy of a Murder."
