In the 1950s, Carroll Shelby had a successful career as a race car driver, even making it onto the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1957. By the early 1960s, though, a heart ailment put an end to that.
Shelby turned, instead, to building the sports car of his dreams. With some help from Ford Motor Co.(F), he was able to build a car, the Cobra, that could beat General Motors(GM)' Chevrolet Corvette on race tracks across America.
