The financial world is a notorious pressure cooker. See how bankers and traders chill out.
Vocalist isn't a job title many finance professionals have on their resumes, but Anna Rathbun has just that. The retirement investment advisor at CBIZ took a nine-year hiatus from the financial services industry to study and work as a professional singer.
These days she sings far less frequently, most often at charity events. "As a finance person, it grounds me," said the South Korean-born Rathbun. "I can rediscover who I am. It doesn't matter what went on during the day, what the market did."
As for the parallels between being a soprano and a numbers geek, there are surprisingly many, Rathbun insists.
"Music can actually be incredibly quantitative and analytical," she said, adding that singing and finance go hand in hand when it comes to the successful end product.
"There's a show must go on mentality... it doesn't matter what happens behind the scenes," she said.
