Sarah Leary grew up in a small town in Massachusetts where everyone knew everyone.
She worried as an adult that people were losing their sense of local community, a fear that helped lead to the creation of Nextdoor.
The startup is a private social network that allows neighbors to connect. It's used for things like finding babysitters and organizing neighborhood watch meetings.
Leary co-founded the company with Nirav Tolia, David Wiesen and Prakash Janakiraman in 2010.
It has grown from a single neighborhood in California to 160,000 neighborhoods across the U.S., U.K. and the Netherlands.
