Charles Koch began working in the family business founded by his father in the 1960s and then took over as chairman and CEO in 1967, after his father's death.
He and his wife Elizabeth married in 1972 and have two children.

He founded or helped build various organizations, including the Institute for Humane Studies, the Cato Institute and the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.
