Rep. Jared Polis made his money founding companies, including online greeting card creator bluemountain.com and proflowers.com. He co-founded his first business, Internet access and Web hosting firm American Information Systems, while still in college at Princeton University.
Polis listed assets worth between $95.8 and $331.6 million on his 2012 financial disclosure forms. The biggest chunk is in a blind trust.
Elected in 2008, Polis also has liabilities totaling between $6.5 and $31 million, the largest of which is a secured line of credit from Merrill Lynch of between $5 million and $25 million. He also has mortgages on his residence and a vacation home, totaling between $1.5 and $6 million.
Polis also served as a partner, limited partner or managing member of more than two dozen firms, including Jovian Holdings, an investment firm that he founded.
