Day care services have had to pay out back wages for overtime in more than 2,000 cases since 2000. One Denver-based chain, called Crème de la Crème, has had violations for at least 21 of its day care centers throughout the country. In 2012, the Department of Labor found the company owed more than $41,000 in back wages to 354 employees.
The violations included failing to pay employees for time spent at mandatory training courses, as well as for work before or after scheduled shifts.
