The city is cleaning up and redeveloping over 500 vacant lots across the five boroughs. This is expected to create 3,900 affordable housing units, new businesses and 6,400 full-time jobs.

In Hunter's Point, a largely industrial neighborhood on the East River in Queens shown here, the city has spent $61 million installing new roads, sewer lines, sidewalks and a park.

The neighborhood boasts access to four different subway lines, commuter rail and a ferry -- part of the city's plan to concentrate new development around mass transit.
