The National Rifle Association is a lightning rod for controversy -- and this time, the agency has brought car rental companies into the spotlight with it.
Nearly 1,000 people are petitioning Enterprise, Hertz, Budget, National and Alamo Rent-A-Car to stop giving discounts to NRA members.
"I can't give my business to you knowing that you give gun club members breaks on their car rentals," one supporter of the petition wrote.
Hertz was the only company to respond to a request for comment, saying that it offers discounts to a variety of associations with different viewpoints.
"Hertz does not endorse the policy positions of any of these organizations; rather we provide their members with car rental options," a company spokeswoman said.
