Tablets are getting cheaper, with a variety of less expensive models continuing to flood the market this year.
Apple fans have to pony up anywhere from $299 for a basic iPad mini to more than $900 for a fully loaded 128 GB iPad Air with cell service. But if you're looking for a bargain, there are an increasing number of options out there.
In the $100-to-$150 price range, for example, you can find a variety of 8 and 16 GB models with at least 7 hours in battery life and high-definition displays.
Meanwhile, DataWind, which is known for developing low-cost tablets for India's schoolchildren, announced in December that it would begin offering its 7-inch UbiSlate tablet to U.S. consumers for a mere $37.99.
While the device has minimal storage and features and a lower-quality display compared to more expensive rivals, the price can't be beat. In a statement, the company said it hoped to "break the affordability barrier" with the device's U.S. release.
