The Oregon Truffle Festival is for serious truffle seekers. The festival does not try to attract the general public; there's little ancillary hoopla; it is laser focused on the savory, subterranean fungus.
A lot of the fun revolves around how to obtain truffles. There's truffle dog training, a truffle growers forum and a truffle dog championship.
Truffle festival visitors can combine their trip with a ski vacation at one of the several nearby mountain resorts, such as Mt. Bachelor, which is less than three hours away.
About the same distance away is Crater Lake National Park -- although the road to its visitor center can shut down after heavy snows.
