To attend this festival on the coast of Southern Alaska, most Americans would have to travel thousands of miles, but the trip would be worth it.
Festival events include arts and crafts booths, music and, of course, a salmon barbecue. There's also a marathon that attracts runners from all over who want to say they've done a run in every state, according to festival spokeswoman Kate Morse.
For the small fry there's a number of activities, including making Japanese fish prints on cloth.
Cordova is a small city that is reachable only by air or sea. Travelers can combine the festival with visits to wild Alaska. Glacier Bay National Park, where visitors can view calving ice fields, is a few hours away by boat.
