Drowning in student loan debt

Last week, President Obama proposed some relief for graduates with student loans. But for too many, decisions made in college on student loans continue to haunt them. Edited for clarity.

Can't pay loans or finish school

  • Name: Emilie Jarret
  • School: Eastern Michigan University
  • Debt: $20,000

I attended college for a year and one semester, but I haven't been able to finish school. I have tried more than once to go back but inevitably my haphazard work schedule gets in the way. I just couldn't find a happy medium between working at McDonald's (MCD) and going to school.

Now I work at Speedway. I work minimum wage kind of jobs, making $7.40 an hour. I can't afford to live on my own so I have moved in with my parents. I don't have the financial stability to pay off my student loans, which are in forbearance. I'm not sure I can reasonably manage to graduate without falling deeper in debt that I might never come out of.
