Drowning in student loan debt

Last week, President Obama proposed some relief for graduates with student loans. But for too many, decisions made in college on student loans continue to haunt them. Edited for clarity.

  • Name: Janessa Robinson
  • School: Tulane University
  • Debt: $48,000

More than 70% of my debt comes from two years at St. John's University in Queens, New York. Transferring to Tulane University in New Orleans saved me money, thanks to scholarships. I got a degree in communications and now I've got a good marketing job at a tax trade group. But I'm struggling to pay off my debt, because the cost of living in Washington, D.C. is astronomical. I would love to advance my career and earn more money with a graduate degree, but I fear taking on more student debt.
