Standing on the deep front porch of this antebellum home conjures up images of hoop skirts and mint juleps. But it's not on an old plantation -- instead, it's close to the central business district and less than a mile from Augusta Country Club, site of the Masters annual golf tournament.

The house, built in the 1830s, was renovated to retain much of its old appearance but with all the modern conveniences and comforts, according to the seller, David Burton.

"It's not intended to be a museum or authentic reproduction," he said.

The carefully restored Victorian trim around the porches, for example, gives the house its unique appearance, although the trim was added later.

Other features include original heartwood pine floors, triple-sash first-floor windows you can walk through when fully raised, and 43 interior doors that were stripped and stained with a natural finish. A guest cottage shares the large corner lot along with a six-car garage. Burton estimates that the cost of rebuilding -- with all the old woods and trims -- would cost $3 million.
