In 2012, Northern Oil and Gas increased its oil and gas production 95% to 3.8 million barrels of oil equivalent, despite some bad weather late in the year in North Dakota. Northern controls 182,000 acres in the Bakken and Three Forks resources plays, and the company got good news in April when the United States Geological Survey doubled its estimate of recoverable oil in the area. Northern’s stock price is down 60% from an all-time high of 32.69 on Feb. 28. 2011, as earnings misses have hurt the company. Still, the stock has been above $13 for most of this year, well above its March 2009 price of around $3 a share. --C.G.
