Based in San Jose, Ultratech makes lithography and laser-processing systems used by manufacturers of semiconductors and high-brightness light-emitting diodes, or LEDs. In June 2012, the company acquired patents for semiconductor packaging from IBM and a few months later, it added the assets of Cambridge Nanotechnology. In the first quarter of 2013, revenue in the Asia-Pacific region, 86% of the company’s total, came in at $52.2 million, up 110% over the year before. Ultratech’s stock flirted with a 17-year high in February, but has fallen off more than 30% since and the company’s revenues were down nearly 30 percent in the second quarter. --C.G.
